Jumpstart

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that recruits and trains college students to serve preschool children from economically challenged families. Our proven curriculum helps children develop the language and literacy skills they need to be ready for kindergarten, setting them on a path to close the achievement gap before it is too late. Jumpstart currently operates in MississippiĀ at the University of Mississippi, Mississippi University for Women, Mississippi State University- Meridian, Tougaloo College, and the University of Southern Mississippi. At the University of Mississippi, Jumpstart is part of a larger organization on campus, College Corps. Within our program, about 30 University of Mississippi students serve as Corps members. These students are minimum-time AmeriCorps members who each pledge to serve 300 hours with Jumpstart over the course of the school year. At the completion of their service hours, a Segal education award is received. In addition, Jumpstart provides valuable experience and practice for future educators and School of Education students.
